To take part in the AirPower09, the USAF will not need to send their aircraft across the Atlantic Ocean, as, since 1945, they are running a major command in Europe, the US Air Forces in Europe (USAFE), deployed at 5 locations: Lakenheath and Mildenhall (UK), Ramstein and Spangdahlem (GER) and Aviano (Italy).
The planes taking part in the AirPower09, an F-15 Eagle and a Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker, are deployed in the UK. The Eagle is in service since 1972 and is said to be one of the best air supremacy fighters. Its strengths lie in its maneuverability, acceleration and range as well as its nuclear armament and avionics. The Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker was already developed in the 1950ies and is the oldest still active model of the US Air Force. Besides transportation tasks (cargo and troops), it is primarily used for air refueling.
