Styria: AirPower09's host province has much to offer

As well as attracting thousands of visitors from near and far to Zeltweg, AirPower09 is also the perfect opportunity to take a brief or even a longer vacation in the region. Hotel accommodation has been in great demand for weeks: most of the surrounding areas are already fully booked, and accommodation throughout the Murtal region is now extremely hard to come by. However, the Styrian tourist information office can be contacted on +43 (0)316 4003 450 or at info@steiermark-touristik.com and would be happy to help you find somewhere to stay.

Even in less enticing weather, there are still plenty of excursions worth considering. A few suggestions: culture-lovers might like to visit the Schloss Eggenberg, Styria's most important castle complex, or the Joanneum in Graz. For kids, how about the Graz Children's Museum "FRida und freD", which offers plenty of activities for young tinkerers and researchers. Nature-lovers will not want to miss the 542 metre deep "Drachenhöhle" (dragon's den) in Mixnitz, or the Lurgrotte cave stretching beneath the hills of Semriach and Peggau. There are also several exhibitions offering interesting and educational information for adults and children alike: for example, "Reisen bis zu den Sternen" at the Stift Rein (www.stift-rein.at), the Archduke Johann portraits exhibited at the Jagdmuseum Schloss Stainz or the "Erzherzog Johann - Mensch und Mythos" exhibition at the Landesarchiv Graz (www.erzherzogjohann.steiermark.at), or the "Mensch ist Mensch" exhibition at Schloss Pöllau (www.naturpark-poellauertal.at).
